    Replacement Headlamp issue

    Hi All,
I wondered if any one has had this problem and how they got over it, thanks.
A stone cracked the glass in one of my outer headlamps and I purchased a replacement but unfortunately the 3 "lugs" that fit into the 3 slots in the headlamp bowl behind are too high / proud. This means the chrome headlamp bezels that hold the lamps in place cannot be held back to the bowls close enough to get the 3 fixing screws fastened. The new lamp is listed as original Lucas - so bit surprised if these lugs aren't suitable, many thanks in anticipation,

    Cheers

    Ian.
May one ask who is listing them as "Original Lucas"?? I think the height of those lugs is fairly universal, even with manufacturers other than Lucas, so those are unusual.

      Hi Mike,
Due to all my checks on the lamp I bought having original Lucas references in the glass, model No's on both the Lucas box (slightly old/tatty box) and lamp I'd prefer not to name the provider currently as I am now thinking perhaps the bowls in my Stag maybe the problem, thanks

      Cheers

oops and majorly embarrassing - I have just revisited this mornings "problem" in a very cold garage and have found its my error. When I tried to push the chrome bezels onto the new lamp and found resistance it looked like the lugs were too high.... wrong ...... what I was doing was trying to push the bezels back with the "openings" in the bezels for the headlamp beam adjusters not in line, so that was the resistance. Now all good and apologies for wasting peoples Friday...........

        Cheers

No need to apologise. Ive managed to refit an anti roll bar upside down (not on a stag) and a stromburg carb air valve facing the wrong way (on a stag). Then there was the severely carbonised spark plug that must have been in there for years cause I rarely check the plugs.

Amazed mine still runs as well as it does.

Plus having dip and main beam on at the same time. Years before I worked out why my bulbs blew every few weeks…

Best left to a Stag specialist!
Specialist as in mechanic, not aftermarket tat supplier.

Why? Seemed pretty straight forward when I did it? Try doing the same on the rear brakes of a lotus elan.

Stag drum brakes are not very intuitive (I took lots of photos before dismantling, especially that auto adjustment thingy). I do recall using some choice words whilst levering the new shoes on. Wonder if a shoe horn lever that i saw in a magazine would be a good investment.

Photos are only worthwhile if the unit was correctly assembled last time!

Fair point - luckily the car came with an original workshop binder and I recall the full drum brake diagram was a great help and that one adjuster was indeed on the wrong side.

how did you manage that? 2 completely different circuits, fault in dip/beam switch or some ham fisted gibbonry

2nd most stupid thing I did was to strip down the top end of the engine chasing a misfire than turned out to be a loose low tension connector to one set of points in the distributor.

most stupid has to be popping the head gasket during an accidental "off the gauge" red line incident whilst showing off to another stag full of most fine lasses. don't tell Mrs Thestag though to be fair she probably knows

Im blaming the switch. At least i can just about read the wiring diagram now. Generally the car hasnt been too molested in the past but there have been one or two howlers, like the indicator cancel that was a bolt sticking out of the steering wheel boss.

Havent managed to blow a gasket yet. Hope the ladies were sympathetic!
