    Reducing power steering feel

Has anyone tried using a spring from these folks to reduce the power steering feel? https://classicdrivingdevelopment.co...S+PUMP+SPRINGS

You may not believe it, but on one of "Richard Hammond's Workshop" shows recently, I saw them do just that to make the steering lighter for someone with a weak arm. They showed a smaller pulley being fitted for the purpose, and the owner was delighted with the result. .
      Really???

I think the idea was that a bigger pulley would give more assistance at low revs when manoeuvring etc. Perhaps it does work, but at speed I doubt if it changes anything.

I doubt it as well, but in any case they made a point of saying that they had fitted a smaller pulley on the pump.

I have fitted a smaller pulley on the crank shaft to drive the pump and it makes no difference to the lightness of the steering, as far as I can tell. I was worried there may not be enough flow at low revs (so making the steering heavier at low engine revs),but that didn't seem to happen. Works fine even at idle.

An experiment I did with the pump on a bench with fluid and a drill gun on the pulley bolt is that the pulley needs to be rotating quite fast and then the pump starts pumping. I have a YouTube video on the pump.
