    Hi All

    What's so special about these float Viton tipped needle valves? Is it they are a better seal or the fact that hey don't stick when dry and not after using the car for a couple of months.

    So expensive as well, but they do look as though they are made of gold LOL. Paddocks want £30 plus vat plus postage :O

    The tip of the needle valve (or perhaps the hole in to which it fits?) has a nylon insert which should make a better seal when the valve is shut. Of course they worked perfectly well for a century or more with just brass to brass, but it seems no one can be bothered to make them properly any more. Some are ok, and some aren't. I have been lucky with the standard ones for the last 35 years!

        Not wishing to contradict but I will anyway the correct needle valve for the Strombergs fitted to the Stag from day 1 as specified by Zenith as ABB / B.22425 1.75 VITON TIPPED !!

        As far as I can see they are the only ones in the Zenith book form the 1970's that were Viton tipped. One "theory" I had was the Viton (rubber) tip gave a better seal than just plain brass because the float chambers are at quite an angle, but then I think it is similar on the Rover V8 and they are not specified as as Viton tips. I did have a pair of MK1 new old stock carbs a while back and those valves were Viton tipped.

            I had trouble with these parts.

            Tried 4 different types:- zenith; (from burlen) viton (paddocks?) ; cheap brass ones (from leacy) & grose (from wards)

            did not find any were completely trouble free.

            eventually got a pair of nos carbs…..one valve was stuck closed!

            tapped it and all was good since

                Viton is a very useful durable polymer…. But it’s about to banned!

                Believe 3m have already stopped production!

                possibly has a reprieve in the U.K. not Europe though.

                  Yep, another bunch of good useful materials that will be taken out of "circulation" resulting in a hunt for alternatives that probably won't be as effective. I know there are a lot of valid reasons and a lot do cause serious harm to us (asbestos!) and the environment but the list of banned substances gets longer by the day and affects so many things.

                  Meanwhile we trash the environment by mining neodymium, cobalt, lithium, etc. and other so called rare earth elements (which ironically aren't rare at all) - a large amount of which are required for the "green revolution" causing pollution, damaging water supplies etc. Oh the irony

                      burlen now only sell 1.75 viton tip needle valves at 29.86 / unit + VAT part number B22425V

                      Had issues with the needle valves from rimmers last year, been in service for 2 years and 5k miles and also james paddock most recently, fitted for 6 years but limited use. in both cases a carb was flooding with 3.5psi fuel pressure. fitted standard uos original and no longer an issue. Just fitted a set to a stag sourced from Burlen.

                      My suggestion would be that if it doesn't come is a properly labelled and sealed zenith bag, reject it.

                          Afaiaa, 3.5psi is too high for the needle valves to cope with.

                            on the edge of acceptable, pump is pushing 3.5psi, replacement uos needle valves fixed the issue. ideally regulate down to 3psi but for the .5psi I would probably lean towards fitting parts that actually work
