Hi,a bit of advice please, firstly I'd like to fit a USB charging socket in the parcel tray area and would like to know where to pick up a safe 'live" feed for it to connect to without "letting the smoke out"!
Secondly I'm fitting a new cigar lighter and it seems strange that the main live is from a thin purple wire and the lamp feed Is from two thick red/white wires that are from the dimmer switch and give a max of 5 volts, which i presume would be enough to for the lamp in the original cigar lighter but the new Halfords job is i presume for a 12v feed?my Steg is a late 73 mk2,any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks,Adrian

I might take the feed directly from the cigarette purple lighter feed or maybe the terminals at the top of fuse #1 which should also be purple. the bottom terminal on that is brown.. fnarr

Now if you only want the usb socket to work when ignition is on then you might want to look at fuse 2 which will have white wires at the bottom and green on the fused side.

Ciggie lighter will be a purple wire, should be the same thickness of purple wire that goes to the top of the interior light switch on the gearstick surround.

All those bulbs will be 12v, your 5v reading will because you have dimmed the bulbs via the dimmer. wind that around to max so that the bulbs are at there brightest and you should see 12v
    .

I fitted a USB charging socket to mine (73 MK 2 registered Jan 74) and used the Purple Cigar lighter feed but did add an extra inline fuse.

There are two ignition controlled fuses in the stag fuse box. If you look at the rear of the fuse box, with the parcel shelf removed, you can make them out. They have white wires on the unfused side, with a white wire linking them. Green wires on the fused side. I took my USB socket supply from the unfused side of one of them and added a 5amp inline fuse.

It will be easier than the Re-wiring I had to the Stag. All the old wire had deteriorated and were unsafe.
