    Fuel pump

I have one of the electronic fuel; pumps fitted rather than the original SU pump with points. No fuel getting to he engine bay and not blockages in the fuel pipe. Removed fuel pipe from pump to tank and its clear.

Pump is running constantly as normal so electrics are OK

My question is, do these pumps fail or do they just stop and become a consumable? Trying to work out if pump is working OK as its running

Do they come apart and maybe there is muck inside causing a blockage like they can in the SU pumps

    Any help appreciated as always

    Thanks, Andrew

Can you photograph the pump you have and post it here?

maybe yours is sucking in air on the inlet side?

      Hi Julian
this is the pump from Peter at LD Parts but I think Paddocks sell it too.
Looking at the photo very closely on the outlet, there is are small particles of rust. Hence why I was wondering if they have filters inside that are clogged

I had the same problem with one of those pumps, there is quite a fine filter inside that was blocked. I dismantled it and cleaned the filter, but could not put it back together. I ended up overhauling the original pump which has been fine, as the internal filter mesh is much coarser.

Always worth fitting a filter in the suction line from the tank to the pump.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

Yes, did that but too late by the looks of it. Had my tank tested for leaks last year and fitted drain plug. All was fine but of course they submersed it in water to test so causing surface rust. I then used chemicals to clean it up and washed out with loads of white spirit and left to dry for a few days. Now getting the odds bits of rust hence why I fitted inline filter.
May look at stripping pump and having better luck putting back together if not, then new pump

If the car has been left standing for a while , you may have to prime the pump, mine wouldn't pick up so poured a small bit of petrol down the inlet and away it went.

I have been using an ECCO pump in my current Stag since March 2011 - 48,000 miles - without problem. I've not seen one with a part grey casing like yours. Mine came from LD Parts.

Supermarket 95 octane unleaded (E10 since 2021), no additives.

                    Thanks Jonno, Martin and David

Have the pump apart and full of rubbish which can be easily cleaned out. It says ECCO and I got it from LDParts too

Going to clean it up and assembling it and give it another test before making a decision to replace it. As implied, its worth cleaning out

Cant remember whether the little plastic filter as shown goes on the inlet or outlet side of the pump, any ideas?

                    Thanks all

I've had my ECCO from LD Part for about 8 years, no problems.
it does look different to yours as Dave says.

                          Chaps,

Here’s a picture of my spare boxed & unused pump from Peter. I’ve included the paperwork that came with it, which shows that it is made by Ecco, and also the installation instructions, which may be of help to Andrew. It also has the highly desirable grey central body section.

Why is the "grey central body highly desirable"?
