    Front wheel vibration

Now, I use my Stag, all the time..it has wire wheels with Vredestein tyres. All is normally well, I went out again last weekend and was going down a Dual Carriageway and the front wheels started to vibrate quite alarmingly, this was a gentle hummer like when the surface changes from tarmac to concrete, but a jackhammer type vibe. Wheels are solid on the hubs, tyres look good. Any suggestions?

Check the tyres carefully. Jack it up so the tyre just clears the ground and spin the wheel looking for signs of bulges. The young lad who works for me had a tyre on his Audi develop a sudden bulge a few months ago, I suspect pothole damage my have affected the tyre carcass

Check the drag spar connections to the chassis. If they have corroded away to nothing you'll get those symptoms.

Also check the ball joints on the ends of the track control arms. Any wear in them will cause "Wheel wobble" at certain speeds.

My Stag last year suffered front wheel wobble and vibration. On the advice of our local Stag specialist in Poole, I checked the front wheel bearings. I found considerable play on the nearside wheel, and noticeable play on the offside wheel. There are tapered bearings in the front and these need adjustment and re-greasing or replacing. I replaced the nearside bearings, and adjusted the offside bearings.
The required play is best felt with the wheel on. It’s small, but neither loose nor solid. I found a helpful YouTube on these with a chap adjusting them on his Capri.

What Mike says. Had one wear out on my first Stag many moons ago and it frightened the life out of me when cornering on a rise and the weight shifted off that wheel.

I had a vibration only when turning for months. Everything but the lower ball joints was replaced but the vibration persisted. The joints felt ok on the bench. only after replacing them, did the vibration go away. I even swapped out the strut unit. another thing which may help is to reduce the free play in the wheel bearing nut. I recall other Triumph set that differently to the Stag.
