    Underseat speakers?

I have now got my old Kenwood Minidisc radio re-installed and, using the RetroSound two-channel dash speaker and a speaker in each rear cubby I find that the sound is good enough but lacks bass. Has anyone found an underseat bass driver / woofer that fits our cars? I don't need a massive power output but it would be nice to hear (or maybe feel) the tuba and double bass!

    Thanks,
    Richard

I am not sure there is enough space under either seat. I might be inclined to lob a bass woofer in the bottom of the hood well. pretty much all the space below the top of the rear shock absorbers is free space.

You could go weapons grade Barry

You will probably need weapons grade. I can't really hear my radio or cd above 50mph or 60 with hard top! Just have to listen to the exhaust note instead! 😀

        Thanks,
Just enough to drown out the bearing noises eh?

        oops sorry.

in the 1980’s I visited a car hifi shop thinking my £100 budget might get me a pair of decent speakers….

Little did I know that even back then you needed 10 times that to get decent.

i was a bit embarrassed and left with a pair of budget pioneers for £120….they still work though.

if I ever listen to music in the stag, it’s via a Sony disc player (!) plugged into the front of the old audio-line (!)

old school car; old school radio!

sorry, to have been unhelpful on this occasion Richard.

im usually just grateful if I can hear 8 or 7 cylinders firing.

I looked when I was doing my resto & couldn't find a slim woofer that would fit, even the slimmest one was too tall. I think I will do as Richard has suggested & stick one behind the back seat.

The frequency with which I see drivers oblivious to blue lights and sirens approaching from their rear makes it obvious that in car entertainment speakers are too loud in most cars nowadays. The first thing my driving examiner did when he got in the car for my driving test (1971) was turn the radio off. 'We don't need any distractions do we?'

Maybe the driving examiner was anticipating the possibility of using the radio as an excuse for failing to act on his instruction to "turn right at the junction ahead"

Maybe Philip. My 'modern' has a Bang & Olufsen 15-speaker system, which includes a sub-woofer in the boot. I rarely have it turned up more than 20% as it drowns everything else out. Pointless IMO.

I have used my car for the past 15,000 miles without a working wireless, but we have an upcoming 3-week trip through Europe and SWMBO requests music. Who am I to deny such a request?
