Similarly worthless - "We've sold hundreds/thousands of these and no-one else has complained"
Ah yes, the much used Mr. Bates defence: "We're here because the Post Office told every single one of us sat here today, told us over and over, 'you're the only one'. And that was wrong".
Let me add my "fuel to the fire". Same comments as everyone else, with noticeably poorest quality from the Brothers. Ordered a replacement clutch reservoir (OE) 2 years ago to have as an eventual replacement, and when the time came to install it recently, opened the box to discover it was labeled "OE" with right part #, but was actually the aftermarket shiny one (which, btw, is 15 mm higher and hits the bonnet)
Latest discovery is the front springs similar to "StokeyStag's post on page 4- shop installed new set (correct part #, etc) but now the front end sits 2 inches higher! Ordered a new set from Chris Witor, but have to repeat the whole installation process.....A shame that there isn't more quality control on these parts we need, and I fear with the "Conglomeration of suppliers", they really don't give a damn....
I came on the forum with the intention of getting advice on recommended new part suppliers but instead, got well depressed reading these posts. Naively I thought I would be safe sourcing from Rimmers, James Paddock or Robsport but trying to decipher previous comments seem to suggest otherwise. In plain speak, who are the quality assured suppliers out there?
I suspect that many of the parts sold by all the vendors are sourced from the same (Chinese? Indian?) supplier.. think green box or rubber. it’s more about a vendor that stands by the parts they supply and are responsive to parts quality issues and customers.
I bought most parts from Rimmers, a very few were iffy Are they responsive, No, do they monitor parts No, but given the huge savings on shipping to USA I tolerated it.
On the other hand I’ll give a shout out to Aldridge who, after me waiting almost 3 years to install an interior and 2 years of use, when some started fading sent me replacements with no quibbles - and no shipping.
Most of the parts are actually decent quality but a few things are less so but I don’t think the support for the Stag is peculiar in that regard compared to other classics. My first port of call used to be LD Parts but Peter (who has owned a stag for years) has reduced his range but if he has the part it will be good. Robsport use most of their stock in their workshop as do EJ Ward both of which are decent suppliers. COH Baines seem to do decent rubber products.
Some things appear to come from the same source (timing chain guides for one) and we’re a small market so the number of manufacturers who are prepared to provide parts for our cars is ever dwindling. we may have to adapt the odd thing (which is daft, if it can be made wrongly, surely it can be made correctly) but there it is tbh. If there’s anything in particular you’re worried about the quality of, either post on the forum for advice or drop me a private message.
if you’re buying anything that SOCTFL has had a hand in producing you can be sure it’s good quality. The range (available from Robsport or Wards) is shown on an ad in the magazine.
