Ahh, thanks for that. Makes perfect sense that it is for a potential return from a PI system - I hadn't considered that the PI saloon or estate might use the same tank.
There's another plugged/blanked stub on the top of the tank near the fuel gauge sender - what's is that one's purpose?
That is the one used for fuel return on the PI. Should be blanked off. I've used a short length of fuel pipe with a suitable bolt in the end, secured with hose clips.
Thanks. I don't have an issue as both the one on top by the sender and the one next to the fuel supply to the pump are properly plugged off on our car - my original question was in response to a friend of a friend having an issue with fuel leaking from the one near the pump supply.
So - if the one on top (as in the picture above) is the PI return, then is the one toward the front of the tank, near the pump supply connection, used in the US set up?
With apologies, I'd forgotten about the additional fitting at the front. That one is for the return pipe from the PI pressure relief valve, the one on top by the fuel gauge sender is for the fuel return from the PI metering unit. Both will be plugged on a UK Stag or a carburated 2000/2500 estate.
