Hi, still trying to get to the bottom of my dead ignition. New alternator purchased, starter solenoid not very old. Tested coil today with multimeter set to continuity touching positive and negative it’s reading 7,Then when touching positive or negative while touching probe on distributor lead connection it’s ready 0. Does this mean coil has had it. Any help would be much appreciated Steve.

Try checking voltage at positive feed when removed?
coils are tricky to test comprehensively.
a basic test is to measure resistance. 1.5 ohm or 3ohm
more in depth testing is beyond our scope usually …. Sorry to any who have full coil testing capabilities at home.
does a spark plug actually spark when cranking? Worth checking.

Hi Steve,
Usually a sign that battery has low charge, or starter motor has poor connection, or other cranking connections are high resistance.
also check engine to body earth strap….
its a long way …. But I feel a draw to come over to lovely Suffolk…. feeling your pain!
today we had similar difficulties with a stag that had an upgraded
starter motor (hi-torque)
we swapped back to Lucas m100 original.
all was much easier afterwards.
the hi-torque was not giving a coil ballast supply.
so much for ‘up-grades’
