Thanks for posting info on where to get the right part.
Most of us who visit this forum have enough basic knowledge, even if not qualified in automotive engineering specifically, to be able to recognise that there's a problem when parts we've bought aren't going together as we'd expect, No play in the springs and too much friction is a clear example. I have two concerns - first, the usual suspect knew there was a problem but appears happy to fit the wrong part to their customers' cars, and second they were happy to supply the parts to others without revealing this knowledge until challenged.
More generally, although "retired" I work as an external assessor for a university running courses for post graduate engineering apprentices. The apprentices who start in industry as technicians, and have worked their way up during their career, would recognise this problem. But some who have taken an academic route all the way to NVQ Level 7 (MSc) or Level 8 (PhD) have had little exposure to practical engineering at school, college, or at work and might well fail to spot it - despite their undoubted brilliance in Industry 4.0 subjects like AI, Virtual Reality, Digital Twins etc etc.
So in the future, classic car enthusiasts in generations following us are going to be more reliant on open info from the usual suspects about whether the parts are fully compliant with original spec, and in what aspects they don't comply if not. Meantime, the claim by some that they only supply the parts we fit, or that they comply with ISO 9000 etc, sometimes mean very little in practice.
ISO9013 is the one that defines the phrase “we have sold thousands and no-one has complained”, in other words, our quality control is impeccable but your use of the part is the reason for the problem.
Hello all,
Today I received the two original springs (160016 and 160017) from EJ Ward. The shipping plus customs cost me an arm and a leg, Thank you Boris Johnson....
Best wishes,
Dieter.
