    Ignition switch wiring colours

I recently purchased a new ignition switch with spade terminals.
But it is not clear to me what wire colours have to be connected to the terminals.

There are six wires in the wiring loom :

    1. brown (12V+)
    2. white (lmeters, etc)
    3. white/pink (radio & acc)
    4. red (light)
    5. red/green (light)
    6. white/red (starter)

    The switch has 7 terminals.
I think that terminal 1/2 is brown (12V) and 7 is white/red (starter), but the others are not clear to me.
Maybe a member can help me out.
    Thank you in advance

There are effectively 4 different terminals (a single plus 3 x doubles). The brown wire is the common feed. I'd be inclined to use a meter set on resistance (ohms) and see what are connecting at the various switch positions. position 1 - Accessories (=radio); position 2 ignition (white wire); position 3 starter solenoid (white/ red wire).

I'm looking at the wiring diagram for my car which is for Commission Nos LD 20001 on (frequently referred to as Mk2) and can't see a red or red/ green wire connecting to the switch. Is yours an earlier model?

It is a 1972 Federal MkI commission nr LE13258.
I will check the positions with a multimeter.
The red en red/green wire are connected to the main light switch.
It prevents that only 2 lights come on when the car is driven and the light switch is still in the park position.

Aha - hopefully someone familiar with the Federal arrangement can clarify these light controls - I'm a bit busy currently until mid next week, otherwise I'd try to work it out.

I guess that you'll be aware that the switch position functions are "additive, in that in the Ign On position, the Accessories remains on, etc. Though unsure if accessories are on when cranking (know my radio drops out but that could be just the effect of the low battery voltage when cranking).

All federals (and mk1 Uk??) have a light switch (park) position to turn on drivers side sidelights only when parked. It’s one click below the off position. As already said, The red green wire is there to turn on the other side should you turn on ignition and drive off, and forget to turn to full lights A safety feature!

The red green does not get connected when you go to the new ignition switches which do not have that functionality. Just remember to turn your lights on!
