    Fitting pistons

    Morning,

I'm struggling to get the piston and rings back into the bore.

The bottom rail of the oil control ring keeps baulking/popping out between the ring compressor and and the block.

Rings and piston are new, all clearanced and gapped correctly. The bottom rail is so thin and the block has a very small chamfer/radius on the top of the bore making it more awkward

Is there a knack to it or a better ring compressor? Im using the steel sheet spring type with an allen key that closes the spring.

    Thanks.

Ok, sorted it, was being too gentle with fitting it worried i'd break a ring. Just needed a bit more speed and force! My lack of experience

I don't like how much the Grant Expander needs to be compressed v the old ones i took off!

broken a few rings in my time fnarr, no but seriously cheapo piston ring compressor may not have a fine enough ratchet to squeeze the rings tight against the piston.

Since I threw all the branded but lower quality ring compressors in the bin and relied exclusively on a sykes pickavant jobby I have not had any issues

i think you are right, mine looks a bit worse for wear and cheapo too compared to the SP ones. Its fine for the top 2 rings, just the thin ones are hit and miss.
