    Watervalve aircondioning

The previous owner of my 1972 Federal MkI removed the aircon system.
Nearly all components were removed, except for the vacuumtank.
Also removed was the water valve for the heater, which is only present in Stags with a aircon system.
Is it wise to replace that part ?
The heater is stil the original unit with a connection for the vacuum hose of the water valve.

I'm under the impression without the valve, you can't switch between hot and cold. I also have a fed with the ac bits removed but that valve is not. Period Jaguars have a similar valve if you are looking for one.

The vacuum system for heating and cooling is not simple and aside from the water valve, components are not available new and rare to see used. The ROM has a pretty good description of operation. There is a thermostatic valve mounted on the heater box which is prone to failure.. if all else is lost then simply connecting the heater valve to a vacuum will give you heat, disconnect it and the heat is off.

Mine doesn’t work but it has failed to heat, so I just disconnect in the summer. It’s a a bear to work on because the valves etc need the centre console to be removed or at least pulled well back so I live with it.

So it's better to replace the valve.
I also discovered that during the winter it was not possible to regulate the temparature.
The heater control knob worked like an on/off switch : no heat or max heat.

          Probably the thermostatic valve..

My understanding is that the slider valve only gives that valve a “wish” value. The water valve is actually controlled by the thermostatic valve.. once the temperature reaches the “wish” value it turns the water off until it drops below temperature then on again when it gets to low and so on.

At least yours turns off and on!!
