    wire wheel spinner

Stag with wire wheels question, the fixing is the octagon 8 sided fixing, all looks pretty new but was done back in 2016. Trying to get them undone and have a box spanner with a 1ft handle, tried the same method I used with an E-Type, couple of good taps and it came loose. Mr Stag says no chance, attach a 4 foot scaffold bar to tool and lean on, Mr Stag says no chance. Put more weight into it and start to bend the bar on the box spanner.

I baled out at this point! I didn't need to get the wheels off, the non functioning PAS turned out to be the pump, but customer is going to need to get the wheels off at some point.

Aside from going biblical with the ******* things what might my customers options be?

Not something I've needed to wrestle with myself Richard, but on other forums I've seen MG owners refer to their spinners being made of brass which has a higher rate of expansion with temperature than mild steel or stainless, so one suggestion is to heat with a butane torch and try again. I looked up the numbers out of interest - e.g. as in the table at https://incoherency.co.uk/jesref/thermal-expansion.html

Yes, I they should be left hand thread on the left side to ensure they tighten as the wheel rotates forward. Hopefully the person who fitted the wire wheels originally knew that. That leads to another suggestion, which is to drive the car backwards for some distance to see if they will loosen.

The spinners have a handy arrow to show which way tightens them.

Mine are stock i think for my Fed. Stag.. They are handed and say which side they go on and which way to rotate off. I have a special wrench which extends a few feet. Before I got the wrench I cut the nut off one.
