Engine is out, gearbox still in. loads of gear oil in the GB bellhousing & all over the clutch etc........Can I change the front seal in situ? Please don't tell me its a boxout/complete stripdown job......

You are in luck - Seal is in the gearbox front cover / nose piece. 4 bolts and its offf. You'llneed anew gasket to refit andcover the gearbox splines with tape and gearbox oil when you slide the cover back on to avoid damaging the new seal.
Strangely enough, the crank oil seal was completely dry- even though it was skew wiff in the housing. The mixture of gear oil & clutch dust is particularly horrible to clean. Now I have noticed the input shaft feels a bit rough to turn, so perhaps the box needs to come out anyway Something to keep me busy while the engine machining is done perhaps.
