It`s a bad day what should i do..

I have been toying with the idea of selling my car, as it`s NOT going to get on the road this year, it needs aloads of newbits like head gaskets, re bushing the suspension, new tyres, and now a new brake master cylinder just to get a new mot, i have most of the parts but keep finding more things wrong, and i have no money to do this. and how can i justify keeping a £10,000 car in my garage without useing it..HELP..

Like you said Adrian you have bought lots of parts so set yourself small goals to get them fitted. Just concentrate on one thing at a time..

You have even got the pink crate to sit on

Head gaskets and brakes first. The rest can wait.

          Hi Adrian

I know what you are going through I have been there you have to take a step back and consider the following.
          • Is the car your daily transport? If not no need to rush fixing it.
          • Consider what really needs to be done to get a MOT and how much that will cost.
          • If you have the parts already then there should be no additional cost unless you need to get a garage involved that is?
          • If skill or time is a factor can any of the local club help out fixing the car?
          • Don't sell the Stag unless totally necessary because you will only want another 2 months later, sell the Rover SD1 if you still have it to fund the Stag:shock:
If all else fails think of it this way the car is worth 2-3K as it stands only £10K if it is fixed and top notch so you either fix it and use/sell it or store it until finances allow it to be fixed and kept

            Hi Adrian,
I agree with Stuart - hang in there mate; you'll get there eventually.
It's a good idea to rope in the local SOC lads if you are an active member. I did this when I needed an engine swop. Four of us attacked it on my pal's 2 post lift, and we had it done in a day.
            keep your chin up!
            good luck,
            Peter

Hi Adrian. Try not to sell. You are in megga pissed off mood cos you thought you would be on the road this year.Loads of us have been there.Set yourself a goal for next Easter. Get the engine running then all the brakes. put it in for the mot and see what it fails on. If the suspension is ok then put it further down you list of to do .Dont buy your tyres untill as late as possible cos now they are dated. I'm sure there are loads of us on the forum who can help you with parts .I used to go up my local and when i came home out of my skull i used to go in the garage and tap the stag and sayyou will be on the road one day and it is . so dont give up .Ive got a m/s off a 76 stag which i broke in gwo which i will give you if you want and it helps you. Regards Tony.

Treat it as a hobby, every bit you fix is a new skill learned and another bit you shouldn't have to worry about for a long time. Just tinker with it and bit by bit you will get it just how you want it.

Good Luck and don't loose faith

Adrian, you WILL regret selling it. It's a nice looking car. Have a bash at the head gaskets yourself, take your time, there's no rush is there? You wont get a lot for it if you sell with all these "faults"

                    Adrian,

like everybody is saying just keep at it, maybe set yourself a personal target of getting on the road for next year. don't bog yourself down working on it every spare moment make sure you get out to a few shows and chat to to others and take inspiration for seeing other cars, you'll probably find they were in the same situation previously. I'm sure you would regret it if you sold it. £10.000 to keep in the Garage for most of the year, don't most of us do that!

Lastly I read an article yesterday saying that it's estimated that there are only about 9500 cars left from the original 25.000 so it's you patriotic duty to do what you can for a potentially endangered species

                    Best of British.

                      Hi Adrian,

Like everyone else has said tomorrow is another day. You will regret selling it! Try doing the head gaskets first maybe as they will possibly be the worst thing to do and the sense of achievement will be amazing when the engine fires up again!Take it slowly and do one job at a time - this is what I do with mine or I would feel swamped!! Hang in there!!

HERE HERE ! Take a deep breath Adrian and dive in. There's all the help you need here, and closer to home. You can't really be thinking about selling for a huge loss ? besides - what are you going to tell Oliver when he asks where it is ? Martin.

Been at the point you are at several times during my 14 years of Stag ownership. In fact only last week I had to stop myself starting the disc cutter up and cutting the f*c*ing thing into a million pieces. Went for a ride in Bazstags Stag and met up with Colin and Jackie who have just bought a really nice Stag from Cherished and my enthusiasm was refreshed. My advice is go for a ride in someone elses Stag whilst yours is off the road andthink aboutwhat you would miss if you sold yours and then decide.

just remember it is a hobby, not just a mode of transport- people ask me howI afford it but they think nothing of spending fortunes on golf club membership, clubs etc. Just do a bit at atime as and when finances allow - chin up
