    cooling fan

I'm fitting viscous & fan. mk2 how long is the center bolt! as there was no fan before

it looks like the boltas been cut so as to hold the pully on.dose the viscous fit straighton the pully but dose fit properly or is there some thing missing.:?

Yes the viscous coupling fits onto the end of the pulley located bya short spigot. The bolt is about 5 in long.

NB just in case, the Mk1 couplings/pulleys are different.

You need to make sure that the fan/coupling are seated correctly and that you don't try to wind them on with the bolt as it will strip its threads, this has happened to a couple of us on here.

I'd also be careful when pressing the spigot into the viscous coupling. Mine was a rather tight fit and unfortunately cracked the centre of the viscous coupling which is quite easy as its cast iron. It turned out the viscous was knackered anyway and after the fury of the crankshaft bolt coming loose and shredding a new radiator I junked the engine fan and went for a 16" kenlowe. On this note, make sure that you've put the required 120 lbft (I think this is correct - check the ROM) on the crankshaft bolt - the direction of rotation of the fan acts to try to undo the bolt and so the correct torque is vital.
