    Electric's gone mad

Can anyone suggest what might be wrong?

I drove my newly acquired Stag down here to France 2 weeks ago, and all was fine (if not glorious with the roof down and the sun shining)apart from the rev meter which decided to just stop. I noticed a few days later that the clock was not working either. Then today when I tried the car the electric windows would not work, the sidelights would not work and the fan in the car wouldn't work. All of the later light up the choke warning light when I try them.

I looked at the fuses and they all seem fine.

I am brand new to Stag ownership, so have limited experience but I expect that will now start to change.

when something else works instead (choke light) it normally implies an earth problem , this could be the case with the instruments, but I can't see how it could affect the side lights. If you unscrew the dashboard and check the wiring to the instruments for any loose or disconnected connectors and if you can get a voltage between live and the black earth wires (12volts at least on clock and tacho, fuel gauge and temp gauge are 10 volts). The side lights may be a different problem. Best of luck, electrical problems if you have no test gear can be very difficult

Hi there, as a starting point I would suggest you check every earth connection you can find and make sure it's clean. if you do a search on the site you'll find a wiring diagram to help you although I think it's for a mk1 but the only main difference is the Alternator and I think the dimmer unit for the rear lights. A cheap multi meter will help you no end if you know how to use it, when checking how good an earth is you should't read more than 0.02 volts if that helps!

Thanks I will try to check all the connections as a first step - maybe I disturbed something with my hand trying to feel for a loose connection to the rev meter!
