    Optima batteries

Has anybody fitted an Optima battery to their stag

    http://www.optima-batterien.eu/optim...ts/redtop.html

My battery is on it's last legs, a week betweenuse and the it's completely flat

So while looking on the net i came across Optima batteries and they sound pretty goodbut a bit pricey compered to a normal battery

Hiya Stu, are you certain you haven't got a boot or glovebox light that's not switching off ? Charge it up and then leave the earth terminal off for a week - ya never know. That really is an aweful price. Martin.

We are in the process of fitting the Yellow top range to our fleet at work at the moment (1500 vehicles), all new chassis are now spec'd with them and we convert on failure for the other's. our Tech people have done a lot of research and we have trailed some for a few years now. They are expensive but are better performing. the only failures I'm aware of are due to over charging but that's not the batteries fault!

Hope this answers some of your questions.

      Ian.

I use Optima batteries on my off roader but that is because it is fitted with 3 winches for serious winching they are very good and keep there power a lot longer than an ordinary battery hope that helps

Martin, i have checked all lights etc the only thing that is on all the time is the immobiliser which draws very little, the battery is on charge at the moment and I'm going to take daily readings this week with everything disconnected just to double check the battery is losing charge over time

Sounds the same as mine, I fitted a couple of spacers on the clamps instead of raising the battery.

I think i might disconnect it and try it, as you are now the third person today to mention immobiliser problems

I was under the impression that immobilisers only puta very minimal drain on the battery

                          Stu.

You are right, they should take very little current, some take less than others, maybe it is faulty. Your original assumption maybe correct. How old is the battery?

Just in case your not sure how to check it.

Disconnect your battery at the pos lead and fit a multi meter between the battery and lead (in series), have it set on the highest Amp range (do not try to start it) and you should be able to see if there is any draw and how much. with everthing off it should only be milli amps!:?
