But if it is weeping too much, feel under the front end of the manifold; if wet there its probably the pump; if dry, the water is probably coming from the manifold at one of therear unions.
Removal, then careful cleaning of the head and manifold, plus Payen gaskets, andapplication ofa smear of Hylomar should seal it. Check headthreads and Helicoil them if in doubt as you will need a good tight turn on all the bolts.

From what I understand it's beensuggested that one is probably no better than the other and the 6 vane is generally favored, If the leak is only small from the manifold gaskets then get a bottle of K Seal and put in it. Permanently fixed for a tenner!

I had water in the vee for a couple of years...
I'd dry it out but eventually it would return.
I used a couple of sheets of Bounty / Plenty to dry it up, ran the car and then shone a torch up the V. Using a mirror, I was able to see it coming from up arund the water pump housing.
Closer inspection showed it was actually the hose leaking onto the housing.
One new hose... and a dry V.
Happy Days.

I'm having a similar problem having to top up the expansion bottle every time I use it. No obvious source for the loss. Can I check the torque on the head and take up any slack or is that asking for trouble. Reluctant to use a rad weld type sealant in case it bungs up the passageways. Mike

you can torque the heads, it's part of the major service, the only thing I would say is if they have not been off for many years be careful you don't snap any. I agree about using Rad Weld and Barrs Leak is the worst in pellet form but I would try some K seal it's brilliant stuff, google it and you'll see what I mean. I've put it in my car to cure a manifold gasket leak.
