When I bolt my carbs back onto the Manifold I can either tighten up the centre nut OR the brass insert for the advance retard BUT not both. The faces of the brass insert catch on the centre nut and thread and I just can't get the flippin thing tight enough. I have done the half on trick but all that does is both are half tight. Been trying to do this for weeks now and close to giving up, hence desparation in my posting. I notice there isn't a crying emoticon otherwise I may have usd it!!!

They are a bit tight I know, have you got the correct nut on there with the fibre washer underneath it (I think it's 3/8"unf)so 9/16" head size and is it the correct vacuum take off!. when I done my needle valves recently I did the nut first then fitted the union,

I understand what your saying, but he's saying he can't get them both tight when it comes to the final tightening as the flats of each nut are contacting each other so unless i'm missing something why would it matter how deep the stud is!

Thank you all for your advice and tips, I have not done this before and I'm really delighted with the range of advice. I've ordered some new bits which should arrive 2moro and will hopefully try and put it back together (again) later in the week. I'll let you know how it goes.
Kindest Regards
GMG
