    FACET FUEL PUMP

    FACET FUEL PUMP

    FACET FUEL PUMP
Has anyone fitted a Facet Fuel pump? They are advertising on Ebay, item number 400120493226. At £33 they are a lot cheaper then the standard ones.

My Stag seems to run perfectly for miles and will then just cut out. Fuel and spark are OK but she just won't restart. I think its fuel evaporation but not sure how tocure it. I will replace the fuel hose with braided hoses and upgrade the fuel pump. Anyother ideas or suggestions would be most welcome.

    Float chamber vent not venting?
(see section in att page 30)

Imho facet is a worthwhile improvement over a 30 year old S.U. but so is a new S.U. / solid state S.U.

For fuel vapourisation, a bleed pipe can be fitted back to the tank.
Also consider rerouting the fuel line away from the exhaust.

Modern fuel has very low boiling point compared to 1970's 4* or 5*

I have heard on the forum that Facet pumps are really noisy, and are on all the time, as opposed to the standard pump that only pumps when the pressure drops. (No first hand knowledge though).

Fitted one to a rover p5b and it was loud, but okay in the cabin with rubber mounts used.

Thanks guys, the technical link is very useful. I did suffer from muck in the tank that completly blocked the fuel filter. The AA recused me and the guy spent three hours cleaning the carbs, said he was a Stag owner and loved playing with them.

It ran fine after that until the Wallingford run. Maybe some of the muck got through again.

I'll re-clean them, fit the braided hoses and run them away from the hot areas and see how it goes.

Thanks again for the advice and help.

For some reason that makes no sense, they are VERY difficult to seal, where the Stag pipe fittings join their own adaptor. Don't buy it 'cos it's the cheapest, in the classic world you do get what you pay for. Mine had one when I bought the old girl, it's a turbine and whines all the time so I changed it for an electronic SU. It's all very well to say it's OK on a P5B but it's 75 feet away, in a Stag it's almost in the cabin with you. They do work well, and they're reliable but do have their own probs. Martin.

The pressure of 4-6 psi is too high and could cause flooding unless you fit a pressure regulator.

                  theres a thought
i have an electronic s u and have recently gone back to strombergs, which are running very well with the tony hart uprated needles and springs
for some reason my nearside carb leaks at the bottom of the temperature compensator, but only after turning off,its only a small leak and not enough to dispell from the overflow pipe, all the carb vents are working fine, as i overhauled them recently

question is do you the fuel pump residual pressure is eneough to force its way past the float valves?

                    Hi Tony
                    Try Ld parts - http://www.ldparts.co.uk/shop/shop.p...4cd86759b46329
It seems a relatively cheap/reliable option and it looks similar to the original.
                    £43 & del.

                    Cheers

I've fitted a Filter King regulator and filter, when I fitted it, with a gauge attached, my pump was putting out nearly 4 psi, I've adjusted it down to 3 psi and all seems well. If the pump is putting out this kind of pressure, as Chris says, it might overcome the needle valves, and the buggers are troublesome enough already. Martin.
