If you do it this way wouldn't you be checking it without the front pump circulating the fluid around the valve block and supplying the converter which would result in a false reading (It would be further up the stick)which in theory would mean you were potentiality running it without enough! I'll stick to what I was taught as an apprentice in 1976 and haven't come across any thing different yet. I'm still in the industry and only know of one type of box that you can do this, the manufacturer states to put an extra litre in if you do it this way they check running.

I think that is why they say you have to do it within 30 seconds or so of stopping then engine.

My bw35 is very clunky when selecting drive or reverse otherwise smooth when driving
BW35 is a pretty clunky box anyway but it could be your idle speed is too high. Try to get it as low as possible - 500 to 600 rpm is good.

          Hello,

shouldn't the BW35 oil beTQF and not AQF? There is a company called LIMORA here in Germany, which sells Castrol TQF for about GBP 8.00 a litre.

          Kind regards, Dieter.
The AQF is made by Comma and as Martin says is the correct type for BW boxes. It also seems to be one of the most widely available types here in the UK and reasonably priced to at around 15 GBPfor 5 litres
