One bolt is not too bad but the other is a pain from what I can remember,im sure I remember phoning one of the big suppliers and they use a special spanner to get the other one out.In the end I didnt need to change it.
Can you not hear it clicking in when you flick it on without the engine running Nick(ignition on obviously)
I have not tried that will in a moment, its been slow going in and then packed up all the time. hoping its not bigger£ things! can you get to the wireing as it looks a bit difficult to reach the connectors too!
also have a mini break in france in two weeks would be good to have o/d.

If you follow the wire back from the solonoid you soon come to connector if i remember right,theres also them thin wires from the o/d switch that run in the gearstick and come through a hole in the bottom of the gearstick,these are prone to failing.They need to be in top condition as to get max power down to the solonoid to get it to work.
Check your oil level as well that can cause problems but by what your saying it sounds like you could have had a dodgy wire then finally broke completely.
