What is the earliest you can apply for next months road tax?. My car was tucked away for winter and failed the MOT for a worn ball joint with less than 3k miles on it. Now everythings OK but Im not keen on losing almost3 weeks for this months tax.

If it is not already taxed then 1st June!!. If you apply for it before it start 1st May.

If its on SORN they will not issue the tax disc early, even by two days in my experience as you may be naughty :?and drive it on the new disc although its not actually taxed. Bloody infuriating as Ive taxed mine all year round in the past and then only driven it during the summer soI wouldnt really have been robbing them of anything if I had driven it before the start of the month.

I've always taxed mine from SORN twodays before the month it starts, never had a problem.

How to tax your vehicle without a reminder

You can tax your vehicle using a V10 ‘Vehicle licence application’. The documents you have will determine whether you can get your tax disc online, at a Post Office® branch or at a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) local office.

When to apply
If your tax is due to run out at the end of the month, you can renew it from thefifth day of the month.

If your vehicle has been untaxed, because you’ve just bought it, the tax disc has run out or a SORN is in force, you can tax from the first day of the month in which you apply.

If you want the tax disc to start on the first day of the next calendar month, you cannot tax your vehicle more than two days in advance.
