    Seat Belt Condition

I notice some fraying on my seat belt yesterday and wondered if this would contribute towards an MOT failure next time?:?

If yes where can I get some of these original belts as Rimmer don't list them just the modern alternative?

That does look a bit nasty.

For general light fluffiness, I use a ciggy lighter, or heat gun to singe off the hairy bits but I'm afraid yours looks actually cut thro' by about 1/4".

You can get belt assemblies re-webbinged (?).

Motorway Belts in Hemel Hempstead for example, there must be other firms like them down your way.

      Stu,

My MOT man is fairly tolerant towards classic cars, but I don't think he would let this go through. I had mine rebuilt by Quickfit Safety Belt Services Ltd, Inertia Ho, Lowther Rd, Stanmore. HA7 1EP, 020 82060101. Other companies can provide a similar service.

They will rebuild your own units with new webbing of any colour you like, but I doubt whether they do "Camel's Breath Yellow" (see latest Triumph World for explanation).

Camels breath yellow? Huh where does it say that in the November issue?

Thanks for the advice I will give them a ring if I can't find someone closer.

December issue, Stu. In an article about a nice Saffron TR6. origin of the term is attributed to parts suppliers Moss.

          Personally, I quite like it.

I fitted a pair of inertia belts that were like new from a Dolomite that I broke a couple of years ago. Clip connection and mountings are identical, just plastic rather than steel covers on the reel. Secondhand Dolly spares are cheaper than chips.

            Mark.

If your seat belts were the same as mine the webbing is secured to the inertia reel by it passing through a slot and being fixed by a pin through a loop of webbing.

Stick a srewdriver through the slot to prevent the belt recoiling, remove the webbing from the reeland the buckle and mounting can be removed from the old webbing and fitted to the new which was obtained from a breaker. If I remember correctly it came off a two door Metro. The bottom mount was a little different but did not present any problems.

Hope this is of some help,

              Regards Bert

Well I have finally got round to fitting the new seat belt I won on E bay but have encountered a problem!

The chrome piece circled in the pic has a hole 2mm smaller in diameter than the one currently fitted which is the same make Britax?:?And the metal spacer that fits between this and the inner sill want fit therefore Ican't fit this item as it won't swivel correctly.

How many variants can there be of this make as every other detail of the one pictured is the same as the one on the car?

Just to further confuse matters the one on the passenger side is Kangol and has a nice cast casing around the seat belt internals, which one should be fitted and if it is the Kangol one where do I get another one from?:?

I really confused now but can get the chrome piece drilled out if all else fails!

Can anyone advise me which is the correct one to fit in the Stag or where I can get one of the nice Kangol one's from?
