    Stags and Kids

I was asked at the weekend at Beaulieu what I, as a local coordinator, am doing to encourage younger members to join and stay with the club. My immediate answer was "not much", but it got me thinking... Eventually, without wishing to write off or upset older members, the club cannot survive without new, younger blood, so how do we attract younger members, possibly with young families?

What proportion of our members have young(ish) children, and if so, what kind of events would you like to see happening? My daughter's almost 3 and is equally happy in the back of the Stag for a run or running around exploring at a show (she's learned not to touch!), but it would be great to have a few more family friendly events going on.

Conversely, if we organise more specifically family friendly outings, would that alienate the child-free or older membership?

All thoughts would be welcome please!

    Thanks,

    Wendy

    Hi Wendy

I have 3 kids aged5 and 4 years and 9 months, so attending shows as a familynow has become a bit of a no goer, but the 2 eldestlove coming to shows etc as long as there is something for them to do

Last years national was a great day out for all of us (apart from the wife she went in to labour once we got home) but there was loads for the kids to do etc as well as for the adults

A couple of years ago i when to the TSSC national at Stafford with my 2 girls and they had a creche which you could drop the kids of with for an hour which was good, gave me sometime to have a nose round without constantly being asked to go on the bounce castle, maybe something the club could look at

We have a 5 and 1 year old and taking them out to car shows in the summer, letting them run around in usually park land etc is always good fun.
Most shows usually have a bouncy castle/ slides etc for the kids too.
Thats the beauty of the stag, you can take them in the car

4 kids.....27, 22, 13 & 9 (3 girls, 1 boy). Girls not interested. Son gives a good attempt at disinterest but is soon under the car with spanner and overalls.

My nephew (17) has just asked me if I would take him & 2 pals to their school prom in June as they wanted to arrive in something different (and noisy). I have adjusted my flight schedule to do it as it develops interest in these kids and appreciation, not just of stags.

Not sure how they will look in tux & gel'd hair after I have blasted down the country lanes

13 yr old girl and 8 yr old boy - both rate the Stag as preferred transport, but the boy likes the Vitesse too.......

He wants either a Vitesse or Herald as his first road car, and I am already teaching him how to fettle and maintain old Triumphs......

My girls are 21 and 16, their interests do not extend to the classic car game...... although the youngest is actually very good at pedal-pumping when bleeding brakes/clutches and has experienced the TSSC SoE Leatherhead meet but got pretty bored after 45 mins

Boy and Girl, twins aged 6. Both love the car but hate being in the back with the top down. Currently experimenting with the windbreaker idea but they are a bit scared of the darkunder there. THis will change with agebut for now will try fitting alight.

Never been to any shows with them yet.

We have a four year old son. He used to love being in the Stag with the top down, and is looking forward to me getting the resto on the road later this year. Given a choice between the two family daily drivers (Nissan and GT6) he always plumps for the GT6. Without fail he will ask his mother if they can have the Webasto roof open, weather permitting. He likes the Stag/GT6 because they are noisey, different to everyone elses cars and he is allowed to sit in the front ( no air bags).

Family evemts sound a good iea.

My 2 are 15 and 13. My 15 year old son loves coming to events and I have just started taking him to N&N's. Mind you, he refuses point blank to let me pick him up from school in the Stag!

My 13 (going on 18!) year old daughter wouldn't be seen dead in the Stag.

Snap - mine are the same age and have the same Stag ideas as yours!!

My son will let me pick him up from school though, especially now I have my longlife exhausts fitted
