    BW 35

I'm not overly concerned but this is the second time it has had a bout of incontinence. the last time was after a run down to Worthing last summer and it coughed up some fluid overnight. On that occasion I found the breather hose was not routed correctly. I have just been to the garage today and found it has done it again after I put it away when we returned from the TSSC meeting 2 weeks ago, looks like it's come up the dipstick tube, there was no more than 1/2 pint on the floor, probably much less but why do they do it! It's not over filled, the breather is clear! anyone got any ideas, views or know of a Mod maybe (apart from a ZF converstion) :P
    Can't afford that yet.

It sounds like the breather is at least partially blocked. Or, I wonder if the fluid needs changing; if contaminated it could froth and push up the tube?

I think Russ is your man for BW gearboxes.

Hi Chris, It has new fluid (last year)although for £16 for 5 litre I might change it again, the breather is clear and routed correctly. as you say, the only thing I can think of is if due to a bit of frothing and when it's left to cool down it gets some sort of air lock which is able to push what's in the dip stick tube up and past the felt seal, maybe I should think about a better seal on the dip stick.

When it happened last year I discovered it's not that uncommon!

Yes I have had the same problem in the past.

One other thing is to check if the breather tube is a large enough diameter. Mine had a small diameter non-standard tube which made the problem worse.

If you use a large tube, or even a catch tank on the vertical sectionthe fluid will be unable to climb up the tube under pressure, and will drain down back to the gearbox. Similar solution the the cam cover breather problems.

So easy to overfill. Over filled mine with result of overflow from dip tube when left inactive for a while. Drain back from torque converter I believe. Took years, no joke, for it to stop overflowing completely but now fine.
