    Nitrogen Filled Tyres

I just had two new tyres fitted on my Eurobox, and the paperwork says Nitrogen Filled Tyres.

I just Googles it and found this http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice...-nitrogen.html

Seems like a good idea, but maybe a bit OTT for a road car?

Not quite on the same lines but some years back, a friend and me managed to convince another friend, when servicing his Spitfire he should change the air in his tyres!................ Yes he did.

I'd say it was worth it.

A few years ago Lexus supplied their cars with i believe helium filled tyres in an effort to reduce tyre/road noise....and it worked

Isn't Helium explosive? Don't think I would want it in my tyres!

No, it's hydrogen that's explosive...hence all thedrama with the R101 and the Hindenberg airships

Nope it's inert; you're thinking of Hydrogen. Helium's added to breathing mixes to reduce the narcotic effect of nitrogen. No wonder it's expensive if Lexus has been squirting it into tyres.

Helium is also the gas that party balloons are filled with or rather the gas that people inhale at the end of parties to make their voice go all squeaky

Not the cleverest of ideas though, breathing grade helium is more expensive due to the appropriate filtration being used, balloon gas can be topped up with any old "air" from a compressor that may not have been serviced anytime recently.
