    RE: Rear shocks.

Hi all, I thought I would pass this around for some opinions. The second of two 2 year old rear shocks has busted, pulling the bottom fixing stud out of the body. Can anyone recommend something of a better quality than the original type ? Cost is an issue (awwww) I can't see the point in adjustables, once set up it's very unlikely I would ever alter them. Any and all opinions gratefully recieved. Martin.

Are you using Poly bushes on the shock absorbers, I did and the mounting pin broke, I was told it is a common problem. I also have adjustable shock absorbers, once I have set them up with what I feel is a good ride I don't think I would need to adjust them the trick is getting them the way you want them, can't do that with a standard shock absorber.

When you say better quality than the original type, what quality are you being supplied? Are they a quality known brand?

I have had one snap many years ago but i suspect that was down to corrosion of the studand maybe worn bushes. I think I sheared a stud once as well by overtightening it. However, the stud actually pulling out sounds like a poor quality product. Maybe youjust need a better quality original type.

I have Spax adjustables on the rear, I would guess for about six years / 30 000 miles without any problems. I played around with the settings till I was happy then didn'tchange them for years until I started towing a caravan. I recently fitted Spax adjustables to the front andfor everyday use made a slight adjustment to the rearsto match up with the new front ones.

As BlueMK2 said, the good thing is that you can adjust them to your preference even if you only do it once.

I ordered some KYB shocks last week which came highly recommended, not got the rear end back together yet so can't give you a personal opinion but were pretty reasonably priced at £36 a side.

        Cheers,
        Floyd.

Martin - i share your thoughts regarding adjustables..... in the past i have spent out extra money on them, played around with the settings, and inevitably ended up back at the 'mid' setting

If it is your thing to change your set-up often and play around that is fine, but Idon't bother any more........

Had spax adjustables for quiet a while know messed about with them ALOT now set up as coil overs so take whole weight of car and with stiff set up they take a real battering no problems so far after track days and hill climb also state of roads a the moment !

It's quite difficult to find a quality mid-way between standard and adjustables, it used to be easy to opt for Monroe or Boge or somesuch, but it looks as if I'm going to have to go for adjustables, and hope they don't come in bright yellow or dayglo green, now - where's the Wifes credit card. Thanks for all your replies. Martin.
