Engine Mount Change

Can the engine mounts be changed with engine in place? If so will I need a hoist to take the weight while the jobs being done. Mike

hi Mike do you mean the mount as attached to the engine or the bush part? i have done the bush part in situ and by jacking against the mount rather than lifting.

Nick its the mount attached to the engine block itself The left hand one needs replacing.

i reckon you could, over the top suuport would probably be best but you will not get a lot of height because the gearbox mounts ect. sure others will have a view, have you tried searching for a thread?

Hi Mike, I recently had the r/hand one out of my car using an engine support frame we made for my sons Mazda 323 BMFR and it sits in the channel each side of the front guards with a long threaded hook that will reach an engine lifting eye. It only has to take the weight of that corner of the engine.

Would I be better borrowing an engine lift to do the job? I was just concerned that the engine would have to come right out to gain acces to the mounts. Mike

Hello

Changed both my engine mounts last year, without removing the engine. You need a good jack and different lengths of 4x2 to prop the engine from underneath.

Not an easy job, give your self plenty of time.

A trolley jack and block of wood across the sump would allow the mounts to be removed but getting at the bolts is a pig.:X Left hand side was trickiest I seem to recall. Might explain why my car only had one of four properly installed when I got it.:shock:
