    Wiring diagram query

    Hi All

Busy sorting the wiring out for the all the steering column switches etc at the mo. One thing that is puzzling me is the difference between a Mark 1 and a Mark 2 in this area. Why does a Mark 1 have a Red/Green wire running from one of the ignition switch centre contactsto Fuse7/8? And a Red wire running from the other Ignition Switchcentre connection to Fuse 5/6? These two wires do not exist on the Mark 2 diagram

Both those fuses already have live feeds via the Master Light Switch. So what is the purpose of the additional feeds via the ignition?

    Cheers

    Hi Bruce,

I think the difference is the MK1 light switchhas a PARK lights position and the MK2 does not. On the MK1 if you switch the master light switch to park the RH side lights come on. If you the turn on the ignition the other side lights come on and the night dim relay clicks in. So on the MK1 the ignition switch does not supply power but just acts as a switch.

      Hi Roger

Thanks for that. I had not appreciated that Mark 2's do not have park lights.

I am using the ignition switch out of the Mark 2 because the Mark 1 wires had been hacked about when the the previous owner fitted an immobiliser and matching it upto a Mark 1 Master Light Switch.

I am not bothered about the parking light facility which I think means that I can do without those two wires from the ignition.

      Cheers

The light switch saga goes even further than that....

This is the excahnge I had with Rimmers after buying a light switch and perusing all the wiring diagrams with a multimeter over two days:

"I'm afraid my bad luck with discrepancies in the orders seems to be continuing!!

Part 219155 which was ordered should be a LHD Main/Dip Light Switch

I am, however, a bit puzzled by what I received. It seems the part started life as a LHD switch but has been modified by cutting the blue wire and joining this to the red/blue wire in the connector.

Looking at the BL Wiring diagrams, this seems to be the configuration of a RHD switch. On RHD cars, the main beams get their supply from the rotary light switch. LHD versions get the main beam supplied from the stalk via the wire which has been cut off on the switch received.

In actual fact, the joined up wires in the connector have stress marks and it doesn't look like they were like that originally. I assume that a batch of USA LHD switches or whatever have been chopped by the supplier to make them fit RHD wiring and the part number on the box didn't get changed to show this."
