    kenlowe fan switch wiring

decided to wire in kenlowe fan which has been sitting doing nothing since i bought car a year ago. as i had a bit of a flap last sunday when it was hot. thought i would just wire it direct to switch operation as i thought i could turn it on and off as required. However when fan is on, light is out on switch. when fan is off light is on switch perminatley. Tried swapping wires around on terminals got dizzy anybody know how these switches are wired ?? Thanks Paul.

            Guys,

Personally, I wouldn’t wire the Kenlowe switch exactly as they indicate. I’d use a 30A fuse in the main supply (if you’ve got one of the big, 16” fans – it blows 20A fuses on startup). The fuse is to protect the cable, so use a big, thick cable – more than 30A. The control side would be a 10A fused, unswitched supply to the thermostatic switch and then onto terminal 85 of the relay. This system switches the fan on when the thermostatic switch requires it and the fan then runs until the switch has cooled down – whatever the ignition switch position.

As far as a manual override is concerned, I have no hardtop, so I take a 10A line from the output of the HRW switch to terminal 85 of the relay. When I use the HRW switch, the fan comes on and so does the little green light. The little green light also comes on when the thermostatic switch demands cooling. This override is ignition controlled so you can’t forget and run down your battery when you stop.

Not only is this system simple it is also completely unobtrusive.

Using the green light for the switch is a great idea.

Will look into that myself as I also don't use a hard top - although when the fan is on you should know about it as it's not on the quiet side.
