    Grumpy Old Men

Its a pity we dont have a section where we can moan about the trivial every day things that annoy us. So I thought I would start one.

When I cut my finger (quite often) I want a sticking plaster that is long enough to wrap around my finger, and not too wide so I can't even move it. So I hate it when you open the packet and are confronted by a vast array of stupid sizes, but cant find a normal plaster that you can use on your finger. They seem to have hundreds of little round ones about 1/2 inch diameter; what is that about? They must thinkthere are millions of spotty teenagers that want to make their faces look worse by sticking a pink round plaster on their chops? Or have I missed something? maybe there is a mass market for little round plasters?

    Bah

        Sods law!

I've got loads of plasters exactly the right size, but didn't cut myself in the right place.

        Bah!

I've got 7 boxes of plasters in the cupboard, all with the finger sized plasters used up - any suggestions as to what I do with the remaining 300 ? :P Why are combination flap wheels £2.50 at autojumbles and £8 on line ? Why the hell are Stag dash clocks £45, and good working Jag ones £2 ? Am I the only one who stands on the Autosol tube and destroys the last squeeze ? Martin.

I usually stick myself back together with mitre mate (industrial superglue).I've done some good work on cuts that i've been told need several stitches in the past.

I'm a carpet fitter , and regularly cut myself , I have tried all the different plasters

And the BEST thing for a cut finger in my opinion is ordinary masking tape , easy to apply , cheap , does notshrink when wet.

I've often wondered about this, but I thought Cyanoacrilates were poisonous ? Martin.

Its not the cyanoacrilates that are the problem in "normal" super glue but methyl alcohol. this causes the glue to heat up when setting and this damages the skin cells causing skin irritation and some cell death. Medical superglue still has the cyanoacrylates but does not get warm when bonding - at least thats what I was told in A&E.

I've had a deep cut clued back shut at A&E and it did an excellent job. I've also usednormal super glue myself when I couldn't face a 4 hour wait at A&E at the weekend - with similar good results.

On the subject of Super Glue, and the comment about not drinking it, I have one false tooth at the bottom (top ones are all false), and it was always coming out.
Got fed up going back to the Dentist's every few months for them to reglue it back in place, so I now do it myself using super glue (being carefull not to swallow any).
Lasts about 12 months before it needs redoing. Have tried Araldite - but that doesn't last very long and is no better than the Dentist's glue. My tooth has 2 metal wings that grip the two teeth either side of it, and it is these metal wings that I put the super glue on. Not had any side effects to-date, so if anything else falls off me I'll try super glue on that as well.

My son is a dental technician and he uses superglue to repair broken dentures. It is an accepted repair in dentistry.
