    Coil Wiring

    Hi All,

You can tell I'm new to the forum - I'm asking much more than replying!!:?

My coil / lumenition is currently wired as follows:

White/Slate x2 (joined together) to -ve coil along with the Lumenition Brown wire

    White/Yellow to +ve side of coilalong withthe White/Pink (Ballast I think)to +ve coil

There is another floating wire also White/Slate not connected - any idea what that one is?

If at all, I thought the ballast wire (White/Pink) was meant to be left floating/removed from the +ve side of the coil when elec ign is fitted?

I am going to be fitting an Aldon Ignitor (my choice of kit as I have used it on previous cars with great success and reliability). Along with possible carb trouble I had blamed the Lumenition, but just wanted to check the basic wiring first as perhaps this has caused my misfire and I certainly don't want to mis-wire my new elec ign.

    It's a 1974 MK2 by the way.

    Cheers,

    Matt.

    Matt

Your coil is wired up correctly the spare white/slate would have connected to the points and condenser in the dizzy but with electronic ignition fitted it is redundant

Your will find that the 3 white/slate connectors spur off just 1 white/slate wire in the loom

      Thanks Stu E,

So instead of taping up the loose one, can I connect it to the -ve side of the coil to keep it looking tidy?

      Cheers,

      Matt.

          Thanks Stu E.

Do you run elec ign? if so do you personally connect the red wire to the +ve of the coil or do you run from 12v switched supply?

I have always run from the coil with no problems on a '71 TR6 and an '80 Spitfire.

          Cheers

I'm running lumenition and have the red wire connected to the switched side of the fuel cut off switch, just in case anything was to happen and activates the cut of switch power to the fuel pump and the ignition will be cut
