    Bare metal treatment underneath

Gent's I know that many of you have probably been through this before but I'ld like to ask again what would you advise to coat bare metal footwells from bellow.

I'm considering a good quality zink based application first btu have wondered if etch primer would be best first???

I've recently been using Etch weld from Bilt Hamber.

I seems to grip very well and I can't scratch it off at all.

Prior to that I have used Bondaprimer. But I find all the bilthamber products excellent (- I particularly rate their Ferrosol spray -a very good lubricant and penetrant)

I am interested in this thread too. I have used Bilt Hamber Etchweld and it seems really good, although I do not have a point of comparison because I am not an experienced bodywork or paint person.

After Etchweld, what comes next? Stonechip primer?

I used Rustbuster epoxy paint http://www.rust.co.uk/epoxy-mastic.cfmexcellent stuff, followed by red oxide etch primer, followed by sprayed on over paintable stone chip, followed by Rustoleum Combi Colour top coat to match the colour of the car http://www.rustoleumdirect.co.uk/. Rustoleum takes a while to dry but flows out great even when brushed on. Red oxide etch primer may have been overkill but I wanted to make sure I had covered every bit of the floor.

I also use the Rustbuster epoxy primer - over the Bilt Hammer etch primer. All excellent products. (no connection with either company btw!). I've use the black but also recently the "aluminium" and it's very good IMO.

Hiya, Bilt Hamber Etchweld is the only thing that will stick to aluminium, after repeated failures with other stuff, my grill is still spot on after 4 years. If it will stick to that, it will stick permanently to anything ! All their stuff does exactly what it says on the tin. Martin.

                Hello there

U-pol do half decent etch primer in aerosol form, but the one from Pro XL is even better if you can find it. All etch primer contain phosphoric acid. so take care how much you inhale. Zinc primers are not that great either. if you want the real nasty go for a 2k wash etch, it has no build and will make your eyes stick closed. -But it really does stop the rust.

Or if you want the easy route, you can always give the floor a coat of good old Hammerite OR Waxoil underseal.
