Don't get the Wrong thermostat on Ebay!

There are some thermostats that advertise being for the Stag on ebay at the moment that are wrong andwill cause your car to overheat.

The one on the left does not have the 'foot' that blanks off the bypass circuit when the coolant is hot. the result is most of the coolant takes a shortcut down the bypass circuit directly back to the pump avoiding the radiator.

Always fit a 'stat with a 'foot' like the one on the right.

    Thanks Alan,
Good call, advice like this is just what new owners like myself really appreciate.

It would be OK for an early Stag with the Mk1 inlet manifold and cooling system.

I would be worried that it doesnt seem to have a bleed hole with a jiggle-valve in it.

DJT is correct. If you fit the foot type in an early Mark 1 it causes the engine to overheat. See an early posting from me in 2008 on this very subject. Lucky the only damage to my car was asplit top rad hose.

So, the foot type is okay for a Mark 2, the non foot type is for a Mark 1.

The other thing to look out for is whether you have a mixed up car like my resto which is a Mark 2 fitted with a Mark 1 engine with non foot type stat installed. Clear as mud eh:P

        Cheers

          Hi Bruce,

My Mk1 was like that. If you want a Mk2 inlet manifold let me know, I have a few.

          I also have a Mk1 inlet manifold.

            Hi Dave

Thanks for the offer. I will take you up on the mark 2 inlet manifold. The engine is in the car and all connected up now but whenever it is next out which hopefully will not be for a good while I will probably take the opportunity to swap over to the Mark 2 style manifold.

            Regards
