Insulating garage door

Hi Guys

My garage is well insulated apart from the door.As i want to heat it while i work on the car ,i was thinking of making a bubble wrap blind to come down behind it ,this could be several layers thick.Just wondering if any one can think of any other material i could use or has anyone done something like this .i could use polystyrene sheets in the door but i dont think the springs could be wound up enough to cope with the extra weight.

My old garage, & my current garage have Hormann sectional garage doors, double skinned insulated. Plus being sectional close to a seal around the perimeter edge.

Well worth the initial expence IMHO, no draughts & keeps the heat in, cold out

You don't have to start from stratch! My first Hormann door was on a new build garage, but my current house, even though only just over 4 years old when we bought it had a pair of traditional up & overs with inch gaps everywhere:X

Within a month that was rectified though. I gained 8 inches in width, 6 inches in height, as well as the gains from a sectional door being able to park right up the door inside & out.

I take it that you have a top spring on your door. The weight of polystyrene is minimal and will not make any difference. You can buy different thicknesses from any builders merchant, but probably 25mm will be O.K.

Checked out the Hormann website and have convinced the misses that the conservatory which leads to the garage would be warmer so looks like i'll be getting one .

Warm garage here we come.
