Quite agree Paul. I run without a mech fan with no problems and the temp needle never gets above half way at any speed. (I also have a chin spoiler fitted)
The only down side is temp fluctiations as the electric fan cuts in and outin slow moving trafficand the fact that there is no continuous circulation of air under the bonnet when stood. I have never found this to be a problem though. I can always switch it in on override if I want.
If the car had come with a mech fan I would probablyhave kept it, as is I may investigate fitting two small pullers in additionto myblower and some device to bring them on at low speed if the engine is up to temp.
At least I know my fan will cool the engine if I come to a stop, even on the hottest day - something I don't believe a mechanical fan is up to.

Electric fan would be most use in slow traffic where the original fan maynot move enough air to keep the engine cool. At high revs then cooling is provided by the ram effect and fan doesn't add much, just makes noise and saps engine power.
Paul B why do you want to remove the fan? I run both gives me options if you know what I mean
