Drive shafts

Hi

Whith the MOT ihad an advisery OSR wheel bearing slight play, do I need

special tools to remove and replace the bearings and do I need to do

both sides, any help would be apreciated.

Removing the drive shaft is a DIY job. Adjusting the bearing isn't as you need a very wide spanner to turn the large nut to take up the play.

If it's only slight don't worry about it. I have the 2 spanners you need to adjust them that I made up from some old ones. Problem is they are large and very heavy so unless you local to SW London borrowing them would be difficult, to do it properly you also need a DTI gauge (to reset end float) and magnetic mount(which I also have) the other problem, if they won't adjust or are worn to excess is you need to strip the hub which you'll need access to a large Hydraulic press to do.

Last year I had advisories of slight play in all four wheel bearings. Nipped up the front ones a bit and put it through the mot this morning - no advisories at all.

Once I had the mot certificate in my hand, Imentioned I was not sure the wheel bearings would pass, and he said they're fine - I wasn't going to argue

Thanks for the info I think I'll maybe run it for 4 or 500 miles and keep

an eye on it see what happens. Oxfordshire address.
