Ah very nice. Central london breakdown. Remind me never to try that one.

I will check out the ignition stuff you say but something else has come up now.

My late evening drive turned into a 1 mile worry. I brought it back and parked it. That box is about to blow! After thinking about it long and hard (and now being pushed) I will be entrusting Monarch to a ZF conversion. With the box being on it's last legs I think this is the best solution seeing as the whole lot has to go (or most of it).

Just to add insult to injury I see water seeping out of the top connection (where pipe meets top of radiator). Damaged inner sleeve for the 'in line' temp sender for the auxiliary fan. Ok that's not the end of the world in comparison!

I'm having an email 'conversation' with monarch right now. Told them 'ASAP' is the timing around this (fingers crossed)

P.S. Got luninition electronic ignition fitted - does that negate vacuums and stuff?

Hi Steve, many years ago when I had a BW35 I also lost reverse . A local expert told me to put the car on ramps and drop the sump (after draining it) He then came and had a look , all that was wrong was a bent lever, which he replaced with the box in situ and all was ok, so it may be worth dropping the sump before going down expensive routes, unless you fancy a change anyway

        best of luck Alan

I believe you are referring to the strut between the rear servo and the brake band.... but how will that explain the other symptoms that have appeared since such as the late shifts?

I used to rebuild 35 and 65 boxes, and the description of symptoms makes this box well beyond a quick fix.

Thanks for the update - but as 'kryton' said - it does not account for the awful other symptoms that have materialised (and got so much worse) since the original clonk when I lost reverse.

Essentially the clonk happened on Saturday - I drove it 60 miles on Sunday - chattering got worse - then the last 10 miles got me worried because of the reluctance to go between the remaining 3 gears! Yesterday I drove it for a mile and got scared.

A new symptom happened in that mile. A couple of times the poor thing tried to pull away in second (or could have been third). ***groan*** went the engine until it had something to work with. One very sick box.

Totally appreciate the updates but I have to come to terms with my loss and will be arranging the funeral sometime soon <sniff> . Just 35 years old too - so young...
