Drive shaft gaiters

Anyone got any top-tips for securing the gaiters around the splined part of the drive shafts. I've tighten cable ties as tight as they will go without snapping, tried thick garden wire twisted as tight as I can, but they still slip off the groove they should sit in when the shafts are at maximum extent.

Large jubilee clips used for ducting/trunking is what I've used in the past.Just got to watch balance,might have toclamp a small weight under the clip opposite the adjuster.Or you could use 2 smaller jubilee clips in a "69" arrangement.ie feed the end of 1 into the adjuster of the other.

I have never had this problem, nor heard of it. I use ordinary plastic ty-wraps, about 3-4mm wide. I have read something about Mk1 Triumph 2000 (or possibly TR6)drive shafts fitting, but being shorter. Could it be that you have these fitted?

As for balance. The drive shafts are relatively narrow. I cannot see that a Jubilee clip will have sufficient inertia at that diameter to cause imbalance in a heavey unit like a drive shaft.

I'm like you Dave and never had a problem, I use black cable ties from the hardware shop and they fit fine and hold the gaiters with no problems.

Make sure you only put the ties on when the shafts are on the car and bolted up as if you try before this the weight of the shaft does pull out of the gaiter.

I never had a problem either until this time. Perhaps the new gaiters are a bit shorter?
