Gent's spoke to garage guy this afternoon and he says that my light to the left hand side of the drivers footwell stays on constantly. Obviously I can do nothing abot it as I'm abroad, but have you any idea why it stays on constantly and how can I get it to go off. I have told him to remove the buklb for now until I get home as it will drain the battery

Could be a dodgy door switch, but the interior courtesy lights are quite complicated, as they go through the ligh switch near the window switches, which is notorious for problems. I have had similar difficulty with a puddle lampand have also removed a bulb from the drivers side.
Probably best to consult a good auto electrician when you get back.

i had the same problem, traced it to a bad door switch, i just replaced the whole switch.

Sounds like the door switch to me, or if the door switches are the single wire type & the T bar light isn't coming on as well it could be the earth terminal on the lampholder shorting out to the choke cable casing.

Just a thought you had new floor pans fitted ? so would have thought the centre console would have been removed.
check conections on interior light switch ?
