Dave you have to add water to the anti freeze most people use a 30 to 70 mix Not quite sure what temps you are looking at I know it gets cold in the UK so you may need to change that,you also have to be careful of mixing the type of anti freeze some of the guys on here will advise you Go to LDparts they have an article on this subject that explains it.
33% antifreeze. I bought 2x 5 litres of de ionised water and 5 litres of antifreeze when I flushed out the cooling system. Header tank plus new EWP kit took 3 1/2 litres of antifreeze and 9 litres of de ionised water.
Hiya Dave, 5 litres will give you about a 50 / 50 mix so don't worry ! 30% is better so do that next time i.e. in twelve months, also use de-ionised water as Sukh suggests. Have you used ethylene glycol (blue) ? if pink, (O.A.T.) get it out straight away. Martin.
The minerals and general muck and bullets in tap water acts as an electrolyte due to the ion content - this causes a dissimilar metal corrosion reaction to be set up which dissolves the cylinder heads at a faster rate
Kryten I use tap water in mine but our water up with us is very soft, little or no minerals in it at all. You can see by the kettle there is never any need to descale it.

we've got soft water here as well, always used it for both cooling systems and car batteries in the old days:shock:it will not give you any problems as long as you mix it with 30% good quality anti freeze. (just plain water in the batteries though)

why is pink coolant bad.
all modern engines run on pink oat and they have alu heads.
it is also supposed to be easier on seals etc.
i am on blue just very curious as to why it should not be in stag engines.

Hiya,three reasons, first, there's been a warning that Organic Acid Technology anti-freeze can damage gaskets and rubber seals in older systems, secondly, it's common sense to follow expert advice and to drain, flush and re-fill the Stag system every 12 months, O.A.T. is very expensive because it lasts five years, what is the point if you're going to bin it every year, thirdly, some pink and some blue, when mixed can turn to jelly, if you think about it, that's your engine effectively destroyed, how are you going to get that mush out ? Don't take the chance, stick to Ethylene Glycol ! Some have got away with it but I'm damned if I'm taking the chance. Martin.
I've run my XK engined Mk2 Jaguar on OAT for the past 10 years or so without problems. My Stag had OAT in the system when purchased and I continue to use it.
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.
