    Best Free email ?

I need to change my free email service. I know there are many but i just want a simple to use, reliable, no nonsense account that offers up to five email addresses.

gmail seems to be tops at the moment, but I dont know anyone who has used it.

    On a similar note..

My 'anti-virus software' needs re-newing and I'm reluctant to pay..! (...rather spend it on the Stag..!!)

Does anybody know of any good 'free/cheap' solutions..??

    Thanks

      Hi Chris

Every time I do a quote, I asked for an email address to send the quote to.

Of the free ones the majority are with hotmail. com or .co.uk

      Hope this helps.

      Al.

AVG The free version is excellent or you could upgrade for little money and have full tech support. Been using it for several years and no problems.

AVG works well and is free, however you do have to search a bit for the free one sometimes 'hidden' by the paid for services :? http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage

Also I use this for malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org (although I can't now get on to their website so I don't know if they're still up and running?

I don't understand it all myself but my kids have their own computer based business and rate them both.

Another vote for AVG here too, and I've also heard good things about gmail. I don't actually use Google's free service as such, but my company email gets routed via Gmail and had been very reliable indeed.

Ditto - although (& I really don't understand this part) mine is routed from gmail to Outlook so works fine, however if I access the account directly via gmail I find their screens a bit confusing :?

I also use Outlook to download my emails, but it is useful to have webmail as well so you can access the emails on any computer without needing Outlook (although nowadays I hardly ever do that).

Good point and yes, I do that occasionally - that's when I find gmails screens a bit confusing :?however, when I'm away from home I usually use mysmartphone which is virtually as good as my home computer and I get all my e-mails on that as well.

AVG and Gmail (google mail) would get my vote for the free services , if you don't like gmail then try hotmail

Somethings I find you are better paying for.

I've had loads of different free addresses but now I have settled on paying Apple for their 'mobileme' service which is also excellent if you have an iphone or Mac. Worth a try for free for 60 days before paying the £50 or so to see if you like it.

Why not get your own cheap domain? My stag-tech.co.uk domain costs peanuts to run and I can have up to 400 mailboxes. .....

It works with outlook, outlook express, windows live etc, and there is a webmail interface. .. it also works fine on my htc android phone and the wife's iphone.....

if you are after quick and simple email to iphone set ups then Mobileme (understandably), gmail, yahoo mail, aol and Exchange should all work really well
