If you know where this car is - please let me know.

    Thanks

Have you tried the usual suspects, Totally Triumph, Quillers, etc?

I have posted the question on the Club Triumph Forum and if I hear anything I will pass this on.

That DVLA link from the search page will usually have timed out when reused..... try this one, and choose 'Vehicle Enquiry' from the menu on the left of the page:

Hi. Do you know what "date of liability" means.I looked up an old Stag number I had 30 years ago and its date of liability is 1992 and currently untaxed. Does that mean it is still about but not on the road ?

P.S. Doesn`t work for motorbikes !.Is there a site for this?

Date of Liability is when the tax ran out last....... so in your case the last tax disc issued by DVLA ran out in 1992 - which is why it is also listed as untaxed

The car could still be around, holed up in a garage, or under a cover somewhere, but if i was a betting man, i wouldn't wager much on finding it !

I've tried it for a number of different cars that my dad used to own; some show up and some don't. Any idea why that is? Haven't found a date of liability earlier than 1992, so I guess thats when it was computerised.

Not sure, the earliest one I found was 1986! (my Dad's Triumph 2500 saloon)

It depends on a few things. Certainly it depends on whether the vehicle in question was added to the DVLA database before its demise. Some of my early cars don't appear for that reason.

Another reason it may indicate 'vehicle details not found' is if the vehicle has had a change of registration number.

For example: a Volvo I bought in 2000 disappeared from the system soon after I sold it because the new owner (who lives locally) put a personal registration on it. As soon as he sold it and it reverted to its original number it appeared again on the system.

the DVLA DB is not fool-proof (you only have to watch BBC's Watchdog to know that) , but the other problem is when they computerised the records they only entered the records they had - so where there was missing info they were left out.

Many of these will make up the missing 'vehicle not found' numbers
