I more than take your point, and more than sympathise - BUT - after I was hit when stationary, the first thing the insurance adjuster did, was check my tyres, the same could happen to you, the buggers will go to any lengths to avoid paying, if they can say your car is not fitted with seat belts as the manufacturer intended, you wind up with the same result as bald tyres would provide - NO COVER !
I know it's not fair, I know it's not reasonable, but that's the way they are, and we're stuck with it. I really am sorry to be so negative, but insurance companies are a law unto themselves. Martin.

Martin, I dont think your being negative, your being sensible here. We have all heard of insurance companies not paying out due to this or that, however if you have a good classic car insurer that makes an assessmant on all the modifications made and then makes the premium appropriate, well that should be fine. But as the point yourmakingbasically is, bewarned if you do not tell them thenyou risk the non payout of any monies.

Mine and others points out that, we mitigate the associated risk to us and others by as far aswere concerned an improvement to the safety systems in the car ie seat belts, I cannot see how a insurer can argue the point against themas long as they are fitted as instuctions and you subsequently inform the insurer.

Again I fitted these belts supplied by areputable Stag supplier, I do not see how they can sellthese 3 pointseat belts if they do not improve safetyor god forbid impare them.

No but! yea but! no but! yea but!

I know this isnt America, yet we are getting closer with all this litigation stuff. This is my point about the company:

How can a reputable company sell a set of specific seat beltsfora specific car yet not be suitable for it.They would be hung drawn and quartered.

I guess this sums it up:

              http://www.securon.co.uk/application...ts_triumph.htm

The 3-point seat belts sold by the main suppliers are Securon 254, which are not listed on their web site as suitable for the Stag, they only list lap belts only.

So I guess the 3-point belts they should be sold as "use at your own risk!" :?

                i had these concerns

search for a thread called "rear seatbelts" from aug 2009

                the link below may work

                http://stagownersclub.mywowbb.com/vi...ight=sunnystag

I fitted 3 points from Rimmers and rimmer issued instruction for how to do it, the attached thread has a comment from blue mk2 that seat belt manufactures were consulted which seems to have resulted in the fitting instruction given by HRS and rimmers.

No they wouldn't mate, their defence would be that the belts fit the Stag, not that they are safer / recommended / as original etc. caveat emptor. Martin.

You may or may not know. but I developed the rear three point inertia reel back in 1991, when I was working at Hart Racing,we got some help from the seat belt manufacturers. Although not ideal, mounting the inertia reel on the wheel arch was the best position. We did look at mounting the inertia reel in the middle with the belt over the back seat, but it was pointed out that in a hard impact there was nothing to stop the rear seat backrest from collapsing forward, with the occupant being thrown into the front seats as the frame it is mounted too is very flimsy. With the shoulder strap mounted higher on the shock absorber turret the belt will restrain the passenger.

Wehad a test Stag when I was developing the rear belts,we did mount a set with the inertia reel in the middle but found the occupant could actually distort the seat backrest just by pulling forward on the front seat.

Copied the link from aug 2009,

Thats it', I'm changing mine to the suspension turret. As suggested by BLUE MK2

Mine are fitted like this with the reel mounted at the base of the wheel arch and the fixed point then comes over the top of the seet having been fixed to the top of the wheel arch or suspension mount (can't remember which).

They do seem secure although it is a little strange with the reel at the bottom as the normal way would be topulling on the belt from over your schoulder.
