hi guys, i am looking to replace the type 35 auto rear end, because my speedo will not work at the gear box . so have anyone changed this, do i have to empty the oil or will it not matter. i see that four bolts hold it on , will it then slide off over the shaft, i am happy for any help in this job. also have any one have a housing for sale..with the speedo in place.... paul

Why do you want to change the whole tailcase?
Have you taken the speedo gear out to see if it's OK?
I have a dead box if you need just a speedo gear/housing.

hi adie, i have checked the speedo gear, even changed it for other item, by turning the propshaft ,in gear, the drive gear can be felt turning with my finger.{gearbox dropped just enought to get to it}, but when the speedo gear is inserted it does not turn .i would think the drive gear is worn. i bought the gearbox , which was recondition, so i have never had the speedo working. you can not buy a newspeedo gear anymore, so i can not try a new one. but both speedo gears i tryedlook ok. so could i buy the rear end, if you would like to send me a pm we can sort out payment, ect paul. ps- i would still like to hear from anyone who have done this job please.paulComment

I'll have a look for the gears this evening and then give you a shout. Sorry if you'd already read this but my son tells me he scrapped the box I was thinking of last week! (I think I'd already removed the gears so I'll check).

I'm sorry but it must've got thrown out with the rest of the box. Good BW35 available in a couple of weeks when my next ZF box goes in. I'll keep you in mind if you're still looking then.
