    Club Insurance

    Hi,

Has anyone used or know what is covered, it was that I was just aboutto arrange some cover for Le mans, and noticed European tel Nos on the back of the Helpline card that come with my insurance, but can I find the details NO, so if by chance someone else knows, it will save me £100 for the AA cover, if that is the case you are covered for European brake down it makes the Club insurance cheap.

Steve - assume you mean RH - if so had the misfortune to need them three years ago, alternator let me down just as I got to Lemans. RH got myself and the car back to the my front door no problems.
The car was taken to a garage for the weekend (that was the nervous bit - didn't know where it was). I got to see the race and a taxi was arranged for early on the monday morning to take me to the car and then we were both transported on the flat bed, back to the ferry.
A flat bed was waiting at Dover and we went straight to my front door.
The European contact number I used was a call centre in Belgium, I was given a log number and when I rang for an update anybody I spoke to knew exactly what was happening & believe me I checked in frequently - started off as a concern for the car & myself getting home, but that gave way to that accent!!! (I had been away from home for a few days!)
Another reason to stay in touch was to make sure my transport was booked - as you can imagine the recovery people are inundated and I didn't want to have my slot taken.
As a comparison - my nephew blew the engine on his GT6 last year as we left Lemans & had a devil of a job to get himself and passenger home. The car took nearly six weeks to get back - I was given the option of a flat bed or the mass transporter that collects the broken cars takes them to a holding area(s) and then transported to suit themselves. Although he was very proud of the low cost of his insurance - pays your money etc.

Sorry to ramble, but hopefully that gives you an idea, although this may have changed in the last couple of years, thankfully I have not need them!!

We were at Lemans again this year and we heard of a lot of tents and cars being turned over, so keep your valuables on you.

Hopefully you wont need the cover,. Have a good time and remember to keep yourself hydrated.

      Hi Pete,

      Thanks for your REPLY.

Yes i did mean RH, did you inform them first before you set off or just take it for granted that you were covered, I have been a couple of timesin the pastand never broken down but as I am getting older can't be bothered with the hassle of taking half my garage/spares with me, LOL

Thanks for the information on the other matter as well

Never thought to tell them to be honest, but might be a good idea. Not been to the classic before, but I'm sure there will be loads of tools, spares & helpers around.

        Pete.

I used RH 3 years ago when engine seized south of France. The experience was mixed. We had a camping trailer already setup, the car was towed to a garage, had trouble contacting the breakdown company, ended up with a small car for duration of holiday (less one day! Recoverer kept changing mind as to recovery of trailer, eventually we had to leave it packed at site, fingers crossed, used hire car to get home and Stag (and trailer) returned suddenly about 4 weeks later.

The main problenm is you're in the hands of an independent recovery firm based in Holland, if its a simple recovery you'll probably be fine, they economise by lumping returns together so don't expect you and your car to return together. I was fortunate that my wife speaks fluent French which helped teh whole process.

Since then I've always informed RH if I'm travelling abroad, my day car is insured through them as well.

That said it must have cost a fortune to get the unit back - expected my premium to rocket and.....same as previous year. I'm still with RH and happy.

I was also told to take registration document in case car had to be brought back separately.

Thank you all for your replies

I rang RH and I am covered under the Club Insurance scheme, and they are sending me paper work for any eventuality, well pleased with the service and very polite response.
